Close your eyes. You are feeling sleeping, very sleepy. When I snap my fingers, you will do exactly what I say. Ha! Most of our knowledge about hypnotherapy comes from sitcoms and cartoons in which the hypnotized patient stumbles in a haze, blindly doing whatever the hypnotherapist asks no matter how outlandish. The shows may be humorous, but hypnotherapy – the use of hypnosis to treat illness and psychological problems – is no joke to the professionals who offer it or the patients they help. In particular, hypnotherapy is now being used to treat various addictions, from smoking to food. Could this treatment benefit you?
